Treasure Hunting

image

Seeking shells or stones on the shore may parallel the path that is walked by one who commits to their own counseling process. It may feel as if the sought-out hidden treasure is just beyond one’s grasp, but having an expectant heart and persevering eyes may eventually lead to fully experiencing the treasure.

For one who has spent a lifetime shutting down in ways where feelings are locked down or buried in the shadows for the purpose of keeping oneself safe, there may be some kind of a healing shift in one’s thinking when one begins to imagine and create wonderments about what feelings may be lying underneath the darkened veils. Discovering and connecting with one’s inner resources is paramount in this process so as to instill a sense of safety within. Once safety is created, the process of opening up may start with just a very small crack that sheds light into the darkened spaces deep within the crevices of one’s being. With even a crack-like opening of light, there may be a healing shift in the wounding material that could not be spoken or revealed in any way – until now.

The first step may be to just imagine what it might be like to lighten the burden by creating a crack in the spaces where cracks were not previously allowed. One step leads to the next step, and then to a sequence of stepping stones, guiding us back to finding ourselves given that we literally lost ourselves and lost our way along life’s journey. This kind of treasure hunt may be exactly what we need to find ourselves again.
