Our Quest for Openings

Lake Louise, Alberta Canada

Lake Louise is a paradise in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, known for its turquoise, glacier-fed lake ringed by spectacularly high peaks, reaching an elevation of 5,249 feet.

As we begin to look at the ways in which our thinking gets in our way, we may find the openings for shifting what impedes us. It’s our human journey and individual responsibility to face the specific woundings that we may carry through life rather than turn our backs in denial. And yet, we may continue to travel down a path that puts more and more distance between ourselves and our woundings because it may feel scary to look at it.  The woundings may negatively imprint us early on, with the repeated cycle occurring  over and over in our later years until we find the wherewithal to face them.

Our attachment with these wounding imprints may reflect the depth of how deeply we identify with the woundings, such that it may feel as if it’s all set in stone, and yet, hope-filled openings remain for what may feel undoable.  If we carry a belief that we are bad, it can permeate our relationships, decisions, level of motivation, and so much more throughout life.  If we carry a belief that we are a failure, we may discover how quickly we repeatedly dig ourselves deeper into this far-reaching rabbit hole.   It’s from our wounding that our distorted thinking arises, and as a result, our ego clings to the very fabric of these powerfully-charged illusions, often unwilling to acknowledge that these patterns of living aren’t working well for us.

Our individual and collective negativity, judgment, shame, guilt, and on and on — come from the ways in which we perceive ourselves and the collective masses around us. These perceptions result from our distorted thinking that manifests from our particular woundings.

How do we begin to heal?  It may begin by naming what happened to us, discovering our voice to say our truth, whatever it may be.  Finding effective ways for creating emotional and physical safety are paramount in our efforts to persevere on this quest for healing.  Securing a mental health professional to walk alongside us so as to be a witnessing presence in support of our step-by-step healing journey, may be invaluable pieces for us to consider. It’s not about blaming others; it’s about reclaiming ourselves. If given the ability to peer deeply into our human spirit, we may discover an enduring burning flame committed to finding our way forward and toward the openings for healing.
