Dr. Randolph Stone committed his life to the fields of osteopathy, chiropractic and natural therapies, ultimately discovering a missing piece in making sense of biological processes, with that being a deeper understanding of moving energy which he called the Polarity Principle.
A polarity is a dynamic relationship that initiates movement, with one pole directly opposing the other. Life cannot occur without movement. The polarity process is the expression of life itself, creating patterned cycles of birth, growth, old age and death as basic tenets. Our conception, birth and inevitable growth are positive, outgoing, expansive expressions of life, exquisitely balanced by contractive, receptive expressions when energies reverse their thrust, as with middle age, old age and death. In essence, we return to our beginning as death initiates a new beginning. In more simple terms, we experience: 1) release (positive: out-flowing expansion); 2) receive (negative: receptive contraction); 3) integration (neutral).
We experience this dynamic movement in so many ways: the pulse of an atom; the push/pull of gravity which holds our solar system together; the expansive thrust of blood from our heart and its receptive return; the flow of ocean tide water from high to low and its promising mirrored rotation from low to high; daytime heat and nighttime’s chill; the fluctuations of color, temperature and growth in our seasons; our body’s respiration and circulation; the inhalation and exhalation (each 50 seconds) of our own Long Tide which is the slowest and most stable pulsation within the human body; the functions of our bodily structures/organs/systems. Whether it be a form of heat, electricity, the ebb and flow of physical/emotional/spiritual experience or an enlivened being, this Universal Law produces miraculous movement.
The laws of physics unveil these pulsating fields of energy that resonate in polarity relationships, with scientific knowledge as the structural framework for our physical world. Yet, this scientific frame of reference and understanding is deeply held by even more subtle, more intense and palpable underpinnings of energy pulsations. Becoming more aware of the many pulsations of polarity that are within and around us can potentially propel us into moments of deep gratitude if we can welcome this realm of wonder. I am thankful that part of my professional training in pre- and perinatal wounding which tracks early imprints and their life impacts, involved some craniosacral therapy training which has to do with subtle energies of healing, revealed in the dynamic pulsations that flow within us, where these pulsations can be felt and subsequently tracked. Franklyn Sills (The Polarity Process, 2002) and William J. Shea are renowned experts in the field of craniosacral therapy.
Energies find completion in their form and express their dynamic relationship in some way, including electricity, matter, atomic energy, thought, discomfort, inflammation, pain, etc. If there is any negativity, there is a level of distortion such that the energy cannot freely and fully flow. And yet, at the core of all movement is a neutral stillness of the source and it is from this stillness that all energetic movement arises. This source and stillness are of a divinely dynamic expression.
Creating an expressive intention, whether it be in the form of meditation, prayer, or positive/healing intention, is a wonderful example of polarity energies at work. In doing so, we release what we are holding. Once our releasing meditation/prayer/intention flows from us, dynamic stillness invariably meets us in mysterious ways. The potential for this releasing and receiving cycle is endless. And yet, parts of us may question and even deny the power of our experience in this dynamic exchange of releasing and receiving. As a result, we may feel our meditation/prayer/intention is ineffective and eventually, we may resent and/or blame Universal power, God, whatever name we use for our spiritual connection, or our specific designation for such dynamic movement. Interestingly, when our thoughts contain inflexible beliefs, opinions and judgments, we may feel a familiar sense of safety in them, but we stay stuck in our unwillingness to change and, as a result, invariably perpetuate our pain. In so doing, we separate ourselves from the potential wisdom, presence and power that is available to us, and we miss the healing dynamic extending toward us. Sadly, when this happens, we thwart the creative flow of positive healing for which we long.
Let us reach out across the threshold of our patterns of resistance (where doubt, disbelief, denial and despair may stand unwavering in our thoughts), and ask for a dynamic movement to awaken our felt sense deep within us. A simple meditation/prayer/intention may be: “I am willing to release the patterns in me that create resistance. My mind and heart are open to receiving positive healing.” We are in a life-long process to fully and freely release what holds us captive such that we may fully receive healing. Creating a daily — and more accurately at times, a moment-by-moment practice — is essential for such movement to occur. Herein, we may begin anew. May we release what we tenaciously hold in fear and receive a dynamic movement within that brings healing blessings and a sense of stillness.
